ZAIN FAKROODEEN

Director

Zain Fakroodeen completed his B. Proc in 1984 at the University of Durban-Westville. He was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1987. Zain began his legal career at MY Baig & Company, where he later became a partner. Since the outset, he has specialized in property law, the administration of deceased estates, and commercial litigation.

Described by a Constitutional Court Judge as "an attorney of great prowess," Zain is widely sought after by members of the public and colleagues within the legal fraternity to mediate disputes. With clients based both locally and internationally, his reputation precedes him.

Zain has served as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court for many years and was recently commended by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development for his long and outstanding service.

Over the years, Zain has held leadership roles in various organizations. He is a former trustee of the South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA), the past chair of the Orient Old Boys Club, and currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board at Orient Islamic School and Chairman of Phoenix Muslim School.

His unwavering passion and dedication to the legal profession as well as the community have significantly contributed to the success of the firm and the mentorship of its members.

MUHAMMAD HOOSEN RANDEREE

Director

Muhammad Randeree began his articles of clerkship at the firm in 2011 after earning his LLB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

He was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2013 and promptly took charge of the Litigation Department at the firm.

Soon after, Muhammad became a Director and now oversees the Musgrave Branch.

Muhammad is renowned for his pragmatic and strategic approach to legal matters, underpinned by thorough research and expert drafting skills. His portfolio spans various legal domains, with particular expertise in the High Courts and Magistrate Courts, skillfully maneuvering commercial, banking and property law as well as estate planning and restructure. He has also managed significant transactions for conglomerate oil companies and other prominent clients.

His extensive experience includes appearances in both the High Courts and Magistrate Courts and alternate dispute resolution forums. Like Zain, Muhammad serves on the boards of several organizations and governing bodies.

Hafsah Suleman-Karrim

Senior Associate

Hafsah Suleman-Karrim is a seasoned commercial and litigation attorney at the firm, known for her sharp legal acumen in contentious matters and her adept negotiation skills in mediation and arbitration. Over the years, Hafsah has worked closely with financial institutions, corporate entities, and legal professionals, successfully navigating complex property transactions, construction disputes, civil litigation, and commercial dealings.

An LLM graduate with a Master’s degree in Business Law (2005) and an undergraduate degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Hafsah is an admitted attorney with the right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. With over 15 years of legal experience, she brings unchallenged expertise and strategic insight to the firm and her practice of law.

Her legal journey began with enriching opportunities such as participating in a vacation program at Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys in Sandton in 2007 and serving as a Graduate Assistant at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2006. There, she contributed to legal research and commentary on the proposed "Prevention and Treatment of Substance Abuse Bill.

She has also served as Senior Legal Counsel for many thriving corporate firms, exposing her to property development, environmental law, construction regulations, property development, leasing and conveyancing, corporate governance, compliance and risk management and shariah-compliant financing and investments.

Nabeela Seedat

Nabeela Seedat is an admitted attorney and an accomplished conveyancer with experience and resolving complex legal issues related to real estate.

Nabeela deals with a wide range of complex properties including developments, share block and sectional title projects as well as transfers in the retail and hospitality industries.

She earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2014 and subsequently her Master’s in Business Law (LLM) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, showcasing her strong academic foundation and commitment to excellence in the legal field.

Mumtaaz Ismail

Attorney: Head of Estates

Mumtaaz Ismail, having obtained her qualifications from the University of South Africa (UNISA), Bachelor of laws (LLB) Cum- Laude, is an admitted attorney who now heads up the firm’s Estate Administration Department.

Mumtaaz is knowledgeable and well versed in the management of complex estate administration. She offers strategic counsel to clients on optimizing wealth transfer, minimizing tax liabilities and ensuring compliance with evolving legislation.

Mohammed Raees Vazeer

He earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. To further solidify his legal expertise, he successfully completed the Practical Vocational Training Course with the Law Society of South Africa, equipping him with hands-on experience in the legal field.
